Melville Knox – Highland Opening Soon!

Melville-Knox Highland is planning to start a school in Rosskeen Church Hall, Invergordon, on 19 August 2024. They plan to offer a thorough and excellent education based upon the Word of God which prepares children to thrive in later life. The school seeks to consistently apply principles of Biblical integration through the whole curriculum to prepare our pupils to serve in His Kingdom and be a blessing to others.

Renovations and Preparations

The physical preparations for school to begin running in August are in large part due to the hard work of Dutch volunteers. Between 3rd-14th of June, Melville Knox Highland was blessed to welcome a team of 20 Dutch volunteers who came over to help with vital renovations on our school site. The team included 16 students aged 14-16, and 4 teachers. The team achieved even more work than had been planned for them! They have put up extensive fencing to make the outdoor area safer for young children, put in shelving which increases the available storage space, installed two new toilets, and built some lovely wooden playground furniture.

The school is extremely thankful for all they have done, and that there were no major problems or injuries despite the use of lots of dangerous tools. The team also got to enjoy some sightseeing in the Highlands – a definite highlight being a Junior Grand Prix in Inverness, sponsored by Taylor Cars!

Melville Knox is very thankful to Rosskeen Free Church for their willingness for necessary modifications to be made to their beautiful building, and their patience and support along the way. Thank you to many local families who helped supply food, tools, and bedding for the Dutch visitors. The school could not have managed without this extensive help and support. The staff at Kingsview Christian Centre hosted the team for the duration of the team’s stay, and the school is very grateful to the church and congregation for allowing such extensive use of their facilities.

Sponsored Cycle Run

As the Dutch team arrived on 3rd June, committee member Gavino, set out on an epic 149 mile round trip from Evanton to Applecross, via the infamous Bealach na Bà, to raise funds for the school! The school is thankful for safekeeping for Gavino on the journey and for good weather on the day. An incredible £1,157 has been raised so far through his cycle.

Melville Knox-Highland is grateful for many donations over the last few months. Financial support is of huge importance as the school starts out, and they are encouraged by the generosity of many individuals, families and congregations.

Teachers and Volunteers

A part-time teacher has been secured, enabling us to open in August, DV. The school is thankful for a number of volunteer classroom assistants who have committed to helping on set days.

MK Highland is looking to expand both their paid and volunteer staff base, and to that end they are seeking to employ a part-time teacher or full-time teacher and add to the list of supply teachers.

They plan to hold a service of thanksgiving for the opening of the school in mid-August. Further details about this, will be forthcoming.
