Secondary Trip to the Science Centre

Glasgow’s Secondary students enjoyed an enriching trip to the Science Centre this term. After a blessed assembly on the Tabernacle and a time of prayer and worship at school, students and staff enjoyed a sunny walk to the museum.

The interactive nature of the scientific experiments required problem-solving skills and tested students prior learning, memory and team work.

The exciting time of exploring experiments across two floors was interrupted by a thrilling visit to the IMAX theatre. The 3D-movie ‘Space – The New Frontier’ covered the history of the space race from the first landing on the moon more than fifty years ago to the recent NASA crew stranded at the international space station for nine months. Students left the theatre full of interesting thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of space missions and the movie allowed for timely discussions of the testimony of astronaut Butch Wilmore, who accredited his resilience during the unexpectedly long time in space to his trust and faith in the sovereignty of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The more hands-on they were, the more did students enjoy engaging with the scientific experiments. Otherwise sometime complex matters such as electricity, brain activity or optical illusions became fun activities which allowed students to experience the effects first-hand.

Students and teachers alike gut stuck in with a plethora of experiments throughout the day and it seemed students enjoyed seeing their teachers enjoy science alongside them.

After another beautiful walk through the sunshine back to school, students completed the day by writing up a reflection on their learning at the Science Centre and a highlight that stood out amongst many was Dr Nicol joining the optical illusion room which causes you to stumble quite a bit! The day was blessed and we look forward to future trips to the centre God willing.
